Deciding what the best type of loft conversion is for you depends on many factors such as the construction of your existing roof, your budget, planning restrictions and your own preferences. Below we detail the most common types of loft conversions you can have.

Hipped dormers

A hipped dormer has a roof composed of three sloping planes that rise from each side of the dormer frame and converge at the ridge -parallel to the hip roof.

Flat roof dormers

A flat roof dormer is a structure accompanied with windows or doors built on a sloped roof. This allows you to maximise your space, adding character, and design to a home. A flat roof dormer stands out against a flat surface and creates impeccable style.

Gable fronted dormers

A gable front dormer consists of a simple pitched roof with two sloping planes, supported by a frame that rises vertically to form a triangular section below the roofline.

Hipped to gable conversion

Most properties have a regular, ‘hipped’ roof with a sloping side. This means existing loft space is often limited, making it difficult to create a loft conversion without extending your property. This type of loft conversion extends your property on the sloping side, effectively replacing the sloping roof with a vertical wall (the gable) at the end to the same height as the ridge, and filling in the space in between.

Roofline conversion

This option is generally adequate for those considering a smaller loft conversion where adequate height is available within the existing loft. Even within a confined loft space with the addition of a couple of roof windows this will allow you to create a light and airy room that maybe ideal for that extra bedroom, study or bathroom.
